Is there really a $750 Centrelink payment in 2026?
Posts claiming that Centrelink is paying "$750 to everyone" appear again and again on social media. As of the latest indexation in September 2026, there is no general $750 one-off payment for all Centrelink recipients. Regular payments were increased through indexation instead, which adds a modest amount to each fortnightly payment.
If a one-off payment is ever announced, it will be confirmed by the Australian Government and Services Australia, and it is usually paid automatically. You should never have to pay a fee or register on an unofficial website to receive it.
So where does the $750 figure come from?
The number comes from the Economic Support Payments made in 2020. During the COVID-19 period, the government paid two separate $750 payments to eligible people, including pensioners, carers, many income support recipients and people receiving Family Tax Benefit. Those payments ended years ago, but the figure keeps being recycled in new headlines.
Who received the original $750 payments?
The 2020 payments went to people who were receiving an eligible payment or held an eligible concession card at the time. They were paid automatically — nobody had to apply. There were later, smaller payments too, but none of them are running today.
Will pensioners get an extra $750?
Not as a separate payment. Pensioners received an increase from 20 September 2026 through indexation, which raised the maximum single Age Pension to $1,237.70 a fortnight. That increase is added to each regular payment rather than paid as a lump sum.
What about JobSeeker, carers and people with a disability?
The same applies. JobSeeker, Carer Payment and Disability Support Pension rates are adjusted through indexation. Any genuine extra payment would be announced publicly and applied automatically to eligible people.
How to recognise a misleading or scam post
- It promises a payment "for everyone" without saying who is eligible.
- It asks you to click a link and log in to "claim" the money.
- It asks for a fee, bank details or your myGov password.
- It uses urgent language such as "last chance" or "claim before midnight".
- It doesn't link to an official government source.
Should I apply for the $750 payment?
There is nothing to apply for. If you see a form asking you to register for a $750 Centrelink payment, treat it with suspicion. Check any claim against the official Services Australia website or your myGov inbox before you share any personal information.
What actually changed in 2026
