SASSA grant amounts in 2026
Permanent SASSA grants were increased from April 2026, as announced by the Department of Social Development. These are the monthly amounts:
- Older Persons Grant: R2,400 a month.
- Disability Grant: R2,400 a month.
- Care Dependency Grant: R2,400 a month.
- War Veterans Grant: R2,420 a month.
- Foster Child Grant: R1,290 a month.
- Child Support Grant: R580 a month.
- Grant-in-Aid: R580 a month.
- SRD grant: R370 a month for approved applicants.
These are the standard grant values. Your own payment depends on the grant you qualify for and SASSA's means test.
How much is the Older Persons Grant?
The Older Persons Grant is R2,400 a month from April 2026. It is paid to South African citizens, permanent residents and refugees aged 60 and older who pass the means test. Beneficiaries aged 75 and over may receive a slightly higher amount.
How much is the Disability Grant?
The Disability Grant is also R2,400 a month. It is for adults aged 18 to 59 who are unable to work because of a physical or mental disability, as confirmed by a medical assessment.
How much is the Care Dependency Grant?
The Care Dependency Grant is R2,400 a month and helps parents or caregivers of children with a severe disability who need permanent care.
How much is the Child Support Grant?
The Child Support Grant is R580 a month per child. It helps the primary caregiver of a child under 18 who meets the income requirements.
How much is the Foster Child Grant?
The Foster Child Grant is R1,290 a month for a child placed in foster care by a court order.
How much is Grant-in-Aid?
Grant-in-Aid is R580 a month. It's an extra amount for people who already receive an Older Persons, Disability or War Veterans Grant and need full-time care from someone else.
How much is the SRD grant?
The Social Relief of Distress grant is R370 a month for approved applicants. It has its own application, eligibility checks and payment dates, usually later in the month.
Why do people receive different amounts?

- Some people receive Grant-in-Aid on top of their main grant.
- Parents may receive a Child Support Grant for more than one child.
